Body of Songs unites talented musicians, scientists and clinicians to create a remarkable collection of songs, inspired by the body’s organs.

Goldie (brain), Ghostpoet (liver), Bat For Lashes (skin), Mara Carlyle & Max De Wardener (kidneys), Afrikan Boy (blood), Dave Okumu (heart), Scruffizer (larynx), Sam Lee & Llywelyn ap Myrddyn (nose), Raf (2 Bears) (appendix), and Andreya Triana (lungs).

Through incredible access to specialist clinicians and scientists – making observations in operating theatres, meeting patients at varying stages of illness, and examining body parts in special medical collections – each artist has closely investigated their chosen organ, transforming their findings into original compositions which reflect their relationship to these hidden, mysterious elements, deep inside the body.

The results are incredible; from the moving, cinematic landscape of Dave Okumu’s ‘Grateful Heart’, to Afrikan Boy’s blood inspired UK-Africa crossover, ‘Eje Aiye’ to the hauntingly beautiful, kidney inspired ‘Follow Me Through’ from Mara and Max to Raf Rundell’s hilarious Appendix: each song presents an exceptional interpretation of its organ subject.

The artists’ journeys have been guided with help from the brilliant, Professor Hugh Montgomery, Director of the University College London’s Institute for Human Health and Performance.

Body of Songs Animations are also in production. Click here to preview Ben Wheele’s film for Raf Rundell’s song on the appendix.
